Objective and theme
The contest’s objective is the promotion of human values of the Olympic culture through photography. It aims at creating a photo exhibition interpreting these values, thanks to the close tie between art and sport: sport for art’s sake and vice versa. The theme of the contest Run for Art Europe 2017 is “The sport in 5 continents”; the sport is practiced in any part of the world and in any social context, contributing to the promotion of an universal culture in every field:
The project was planned, organized and promoted by the Giulio Onesti Foundation, supported by the Institute for sports credit (ICS).
Participation to the contest is free. It is addressed to amateur and professional photographers and students between the age of 18 and 35, wherever they reside. Photography and Art teachers all are invited to encourage their students to take part in the contest.
The photos can be taken through any kind of photo camera: digital, Bridge, DSLR, professional DSLR, Medium Format, Action Camera and Smartphone. The candidates must:
- Read carefully the announcement and these contest
- Choose one among the 5 purposed categories (Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania)
- Take a photo.
- Apply to the contest and send the photo:
- Remember to name each photo, insert a brief description and the category, title and identity (name, surname, date and place of birth, address and contacts)

Before sending the photo, each competitor has to make sure that the shot meets the following specifications:
- Maximum 3 Megabyte*
- High Definition file, jpg. or png., with a minimum of 4272×2848 pixels resolution and rather 300 dpi, that it can be printed (in case of access to the final and prior official communication from the organizers) on a hard stand, with a minimum size of 50×70 to a maximum size of 100×70 cm.
- The shots must have horizontal or vertical cut, but square photos will not be allowed.
The Giulio Onesti Foundation and the Run for Art jury panel reserve in our honest judgment, the right to disqualify from the contest, photos with the following characteristics: photomontage, use of filters, addition or removal of objects, people or any other transformation that could alter the photo.
On the other hand, other modifications will be admitted, such as altering hue, contrast, dodging and burning, cutting and reducing noise. If necessary, the Foundation will ask for the RAW file or the photo without any modifications.
Please beware: photos must be authentic and original. Failing to prove authenticity and/or originality will result in immediate disqualification from the contest. During registration, it will be possible to certify the originality of the photo filling in a digital form and attaching a proof of ID.
*If the photo is larger than 3 Megabytes, it is possible to send it through WeTransfer to email@example.com before 30th September 2017, indicating in the message the participant data.
Prints will be financed by the Giulio Onesti Foundation.
Committee and Final Phase
Entries will be judged by a jury of excellence, composed by representatives of every field involved in the contest from art to sport, from institutions to media. Selecting photos will follow the process a real sports competition. Eight artworks for every category will be selected for a total of 40 photos that will be exhibited in institutional centers and museums that join the initiative. Judgments will be expressed respecting the following criteria: creativity, originality, quality and respect of the category. Task of the jury will be to select among 40 finalists photos, 5 winners, one for each category.
Because of the internationality of the contest, members of the jury will be chosen among international academies, among sports world, among photography and international institutions.
The Committee reserves the right, as its sole discretion, not to accept those images whose creation is assumed to cause damage to the Foundation.
Selection and the Prize
The best photographers will be rewarded according to the following criteria:
- 40 finalists photos will be exposed in prestigious locations
- Every finalist will receive a parchment
All participants must respect the European norms on the copyright (Directive 2014/26/EU of the European Parliament and Council). Projects must not contain images, sentences, facts or information damaging people and groups, or encouraging crime and breaches of law.
Permission and Usage
By sending their photo, including their titles, the authors’ names and the filled modules, participants declare and guarantee to have the right to reproduce and enter the contest with their photos. Participants guarantee the authenticity and originality of the photo they send; moreover, they accomplish to the treatment of their photos which, by that moment, will be judged by the Committee. Furthermore participants agree – in case they access the final phase of the contest – to have their photos displayed during the exhibitions.
Participants cede the rights of spreading and/or publishing their photos to the Giulio Onesti Foundation. The Foundation reserves the right to use the winning photos for 36 months and/or for produce 10 numbered copies, from the day the photo entered its records.
The winning photographers accept to ask the Foundation every time they plan to use their photos during the same period, in accordance to Italian law 248/2000.
Personal data treatment
In accordance with D. Lgs. 196/2003 and R.D. n. 633/1941, the Giulio Onesti Foundation is the owner of the treatment of the authors’ personal data. Through filling in the form, participants authorize the treatment of their personal data for the sole objectives of the contest itself, by the Giulio Onesti Foundation, in accordance with art. 13 of D. Lgs. 196/03 and the R.D. n. 633/1941.
NB: The words entry, project, photo, are used as synonyms in this document.
